Ushape

Ushape is a brand that will be the push many are searching for. It will motivate you to follow a healthy lifestyle by helping you make realistic and enjoyable fitness goals.

The Challenge

1. Create an app for users that don’t have much knowledge about exercise and nutrition.

2. Create an app that is simple yet motivating to use for everyone whether they are at beginners, intermediate or advance level.

3. The idea is to have an all encompassing app so users can only focus on using one app for their fitness goal instead of multiple different ones but that is also a constraint to get every feature in one app.

The Concept Statement

This brand will be the push that many busy professionals, beginners or couch potatoes from diverse backgrounds are searching for. It will motivate you to follow a healthy lifestyle by helping the user make realistic and enjoyable fitness goals. It will teach you that no excuses can come in between you and your health. It will include all details on diet plans, calorie counters, recipes, exercises to do with or without machines and without taking too much of your time. It will also allow individuals to take part in playful challenges with their friends by tracking their exercise and diet to empower each other.

The Market Research

The apps that I did a competitive analysis on are: MyfitnessPal, Fitbit, Lifesum, Runkeeper, and Strava. Some of the takeaways from my research are listed below with screenshots of the competitor's apps.

The Style Direction

The Design Principles

Edgy

Don’t go so far with repetition and rhythm that the design is boring. A little variety is interesting.

Classic

Be predictable. This makes things easier to use.

Friendly

Make designs engaging from the start.

Educational

Provide descriptive titles, keywords and visual cues that allow users to gather information.

The Logo

The logo is presented here in multiple ways to be used in different conditions. There is one with a darker background and a lighter background. There is sufficient clear space between the letters to allow the logo to be legible and not seem obstructed. The stripes going through the words is to represent rope that is used in various ways in exercise and staying fit.

The User Flow

The Solution

I decided to go with the colors gray and yellow as my primary colors. I chose to use Roboto as the only typography on every page. First because it was a sans serif hence it's easy to read on digital. Second because it looks modern and clean.

I used rectangular buttons throughout the app for consistency. I wanted to keep a professional and clean look. The home page provides an overview of the user's day with solid iconography and data visualization to give the user the most important information about their daily activity.

The use of black and white images/videos for the workout section is to show the intensity of workout and the colorful images under the food section is to show the bright and fun side of healthy foods the users can learn how to make.

The User Testing

Like: The participants found the app to be user friendly and simple to use, they found the pictures aesthetically pleasing and fitting with the content.

Recommendation: Add a live chat with an expert to help with immediate questions on exercise & nutrition. Also, they wish there was a way to add their own recipes and then share those with friends/family.

The Marketing

The Conclusion

Most users have to use multiple apps to track their fitness, exercises, calorie intake and meal planning. This makes it overwhelming after awhile to use different apps and keep track of everything. This app will help users develop the habit of tracking their daily progress in one single app. The app should be able to track their activity, calorie intake, recipes, etc. It should be able to motivate users when they are finding it difficult to create a healthy lifestyle.
